Memory 118 – Reliving a day at the Magic Kingdom: Part 10, Dole Whips and Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade

Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can’t actually be there. Come join us as we continue our day in Walt Disney World, picking up as we leave Dream Along With Mickey in front of Cinderella’s Castle and head into Adventureland for a Dole Whip before heading to Frontierland to catch the Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade.

Well guess what. California is back on, and plans are coming together quickly. I looks like we’ll be spending July 16-23 in California, and potentially Friday July18th at a Disney Park. Personally I’m pushing for Disney California Adventure Park in hopes of seeing the wonderful Cars Land finally. So keep that in mind if you’re going to be in DCA on the 18th. Maybe shoot me a private message on Social Media, email me, or send a text or phone call to the voice mail line and we can try to meet up somewhere in the park.

Sorry, can you tell I’m a little excited? Let’s get back to our real reason for listening today. Let’s get back to our day in the Magic Kingdom and see what adventures await us.

So as we pick back up with our day in the Magic Kingdom, just remember it’s a relatively quiet day here in Walt Disney World (a 3/10 on the TouringPlans.com website). We’re approaching time for the 3PM Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade, but after standing outside in the high 80° heat to watch the Dream Along with Mickey stage show in front of Cinderella’s Castle, we need to find a way to cool off, and what better way than a nice refreshing Dole Whip. We have already loaded the kids into the stroller, and we’ll continue our way across the hub in front of Cinderella’s Castle gong from Tomorrowland and into Adventureland. Traci and I will split up for a few minutes. She takes the kids and goes searching for a cool rest spot and finds the queue area of Tinkerbell’s Magical Nook, while I hop in line for our Dole Whips. We’ll listen to some of the Adventureland background as we wait to order our treat. After I get my two floats, we’ll head over to meet up with the family and enjoy our treat in the air conditioning off the queue. The family makes little work of those floats, we reapply sunscreen and head back out into the heat of the Florida afternoon in search of a spot to watch the parade.

We make a right turn, cross over from Adventureland into Frontierland with only minutes to spare. You’ll hear the announcement for the parade in the zone to our right and eventually our speaker kicks in as we’re near the front of the zone. Then the parade starts for us, and the grand marshals ride by followed by a complete cornucopia of characters from many of the great Disney animated features and shorts.

As the parade wraps, we’ll cut again for today’s memory as my family and I go in search of a restroom before heading off to our next adventure.

I have to ask, who doesn’t like a Dole Whip? And let me just say, a Dole Whip Float is the greatest invention. You get a full serving of Dole Whip, plus a cool refreshing serving of Pineapple Juice. And when the two mix… mmmmmmmmm. Trust me, if you like Pineapple, you HAVE to try this.

Now the Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade has been retired. It’s been a long time since Walt Disney World has reimagined the parade in the Magic Kingdom. Most of the time they change the song, maybe reorder the floats, or add some smaller pieces, but we haven’t seen a full redo of the parade, and I personally can’t wait to see the Festival of Fantasy Parade that is now playing in the Magic Kingdom. But let me be clear, I’m not bashing the parade. Until I had kids I didn’t understand the pull of a Walt Disney World parade, but when you see the joy in their eyes as they wave, shake hands, or blow kisses at their favorite characters, you haven’t experienced the magic of a Disney parade. Just ask your child what they thought and you’ll hear them exclaim “I got to see “ insert your favorite princess here, or “Captain Hook scared me”. Let me just say, if it’s possible, I will make time for a character parade on my trips to a Disney Park with my children from now on.
