Memory 150 – A Day at Epcot 2: Part 1, Entering and Turtle Talk With Crush

Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can’t actually be there. We’ll start a new day today in Epcot, a shortened one, and begin by talking with our favorite sea turtle.

At the start of this year we began reliving a day at Epcot. We finished the day in Memory 149, and with only a handful of weeks left in the year, I figured what better way to finish out the year than with an half-day at Epcot that I wasn’t sure we’d ever get to use.

Let me set the stage. It’s a Sunday at the end of January 2015, and our family is all traveling to Orlando for a week vacation to celebrate my Dad’s milestone birthday. We’ll be joining the memory as we (my dad and my family) are arriving in Epcot around 4PM. The rest of the family has stayed at the condo while we opted to use our free day (they were running a special on the tickets then where they had a free day) to spend in Epcot.

It’s a bright sunny day, temperature is in the 70’s, with a strong breeze. Unfortunately that same breeze will make outside recordings (like those of us walking from attraction to attraction) a bit unbearable, so we probably won’t have as much ambient sound as we walk around, but we’ll see. We have already picked up our tickets from the Disney reseller, and made our way onto Disney property, which is about 10 minutes away from the condo. The crowds are light to moderate (a 5/10 on TouringPlans.com) but in this park, that really means the headliners have a longer wait, and the rest of the park is still quite bearable.

We’ll join the memory as we’re paying for parking and then heading in through bag check and ticketing. We’ll stay to the right of Spaceship Earth and head towards the Western half of Future World with a goal of catching some of the fun in the Seas with Nemo and Friends. As we arrive outside the pavilion, the Lines app suggests we catch Turtle Talk With Crush, which is good because it was only 5 minutes till the next show. We’ll spend time looking at the different exhibits in the waiting area, which is quite cool to Susie who can now read some. Then the doors open and we’re let in. You’ll hear us coaching Susie on how to get picked to ask a question, and sure enough, Susie gets called again (she was the first one asking about how much they eat).

As the show is going on, I’m taking this time to figure out our next attraction, which we end up deciding not to catch the short ride on The Seas with Nemo & Friends, but to hurry to the back of the park and catch the final set of The Voices of Liberty. We’ll stay with the audio as my family and I head from one end of the park to the other (at least as much of it that isn’t blown out by the wind).

So I hope you all are excited about spending a bit more time in Epcot. Again, this is one of my favorite parks in all of Walt Disney World, and it’s one of our kids also. We love seeing them get to interact with Crush, and the excitement they have as we’re getting to ride new rides with them.
