Well one of my coworkers has just returned from a trip to Walt Disney World while another is planning their upcoming family vacation. It seems like everyone around me is going to Walt Disney World. The hard part is, I don’t want to be that guy that says “you have to see this or that”, or “make sure you go commando”, or “download this app and read this book”. It’s hard, because of my many trips, I really want to tell them to avoid these pitfalls without seeming like I’m a crazy Disney fan. Has anyone else thought this? I’m pretty sure most of my coworkers don’t even know I’m a Disney Podcaster. Anyways, it’s hard hearing about their upcoming trips, and I don’t even have one in the works right now. Guess I’ll just have to live vicariously through their stories and Facebook posts while reliving another memory. So let’s get to it shall we.
Just like last time, we’re reliving my memories from our most recent trip to Walt Disney World in January of 2015. It’s a beautiful sunny day, and our first full day in the parks. In memory 160, my family and I just finished watching Mulch, Sweat ‘n Shears on the Streets of America. As the concert ends, and the band makes their way back up the street, we have some time to kill. My dad, sister, and her family landed at MCO a little while ago, have dropped their luggage and things at the condo, and are making their way to Walt Disney World at this moment to meet up with us at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’ve got lunch reservations, and my sister had a list of things they wanted to do in the parks, so we are trying not to do everything before they arrive. So we decided that now would be a good time to let the kids go run and play for a little while, so we head down the street ourselves and into the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure play area. Unfortunately, this won’t be our memory either. That corrupt audio file, well I hadn’t stopped recording yet, so I lost this audio also, and I don’t have another option for audio this time. We’ll just have to continue our day onto our next memory instead.
Eventually, the rest of the family arrives, and after a brief reunion of sorts, we all gather the kids up head for our next attraction which is also right up the street at the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show. We had perfect timing, and made it into the stadium 5 minutes before it begins. We split up a bit since some little people needed a bathroom, so half of us get seats while the other half will find us in a minute or two. We’ll have little problems finding seats thankfully since crowds are light. The rest of the family joins us, and the show begins.
Sadly, Mikey is frightened by the loud noises as usual, he’s actually sitting on my lap through most of the show, with Traci sitting right in front of us holding his knee or hand. Susie on the other had is loving it. You’ll hear us reminding the kids not to try any of this stuff at home (just because I know as a kid I dreamt about jumping off a building onto a trampoline or crash pad, but that wouldn’t be safe kids). I know this show doesn’t have the same re-ridability of other attractions, but I will miss it when it’s gone shortly. The gimmicks and gags are stale, while the set is fading in the sun. It’s a shame really, because stunt shows are a dying art form. They aren’t cheap I’m sure, but they are so different from any other attraction and show, and so unique to what a studio attraction should show, those behind the scenes looks into how an action movie is created. I wish there was some way to keep or update both of these stunt shows in the Studios instead of dropping them.
Today’s memory is in binaural once again, so I’d suggest putting those headphones on to fully immerse yourself in the memory.
Now sit back. Relax. Close your eyes. And come with me as we get to experience this unique stunt show one last time.
