Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can’t actually be there. Let’s continue our day in the Magic Kingdom as we catch a couple of rides on Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
Happy Black Friday Shopping day… doesn’t quite work does it. Well Happy Day-After-Thanksgiving to all my American friends. And to the rest of you… Happy Friday. I hope everyone had a day filled with food and laughter, and for those of you out there braving the crowds to save money on Christmas shopping, I hope this episode brings a little joy to you this day. The type of joy we all feel when we are in our happy place, Walt Disney World.
Let’s pick back up where we left off in the Magic Kingdom. Wishes has ended, but the parks are still open for another 30 minutes. Question: If you had a choice, would you choose to stand in the masses trying to make your way down Main Street USA to the TTC and back home? or would you take this opportunity and go to the back of the park and catch a ride on your childs favorite attraction? We opt for the latter, and begin by swimming up stream a bit, across the bridge, and back into Tomorrowland. We’ll pick back up as we’re passing by Monsters Inc, Laugh Floor and continue around towards the new Fantasyland. While the crowds have been light all day (a 3/10 on TouringPlans.com) right now it feels more crowded, but don’t worry this too shall pass. As we begin to make our way into Fantasyland, the crowds thin more as the “good parents” of small children have all left the parks, leaving it to us “mean parents”. You’ll hear us park the stroller, get the kids out, and head straight onto an elephant with no wait. In fact, the wait is so low with just a simple question they let us just stay on and ride again. We’ll catch a second ride before loading the kids back up and going in search of another attraction to squeeze in with our final 15 minutes of park time. As we land the second time, Traci and I begin the hard decsion of “Do we head for home? or do we drag the kids on another ride”. Well you’ll just have to check back in 2 weeks to find out where we go next.
Obviously our family loves Dumbo. We rode it back on Part 4 of this day in the Magic Kingdom, and again now in part 20. There is something about this flying pachyderm that just brings a smile to every heart, and makes even the grumpiest of child happy again. That said, this attraction is way different in the daytime from the nighttime. As you soar above the trees and rooftops of the Magic Kingdom, your views change. I have always loved the parks at night, taking photos of attractions all lit up, observing the differences in how a land is lit from Tomorrowland with all it’s neon to Adventureland it’s it’s lantern or candle light, and these views from your elephant are second to none. So don’t underestimate a second ride on Dumbo, if it means you get to see the park in a different light… literally.
