One of my favorite times of year is when fireflies light up the evenings and the woods behind my house twinkle with their glow. However, this time also brings an abundance of mosquitoes and other bugs that can make being outside unpleasant. Instead of resenting them, let’s take a moment to understand the struggles bugs face, which we’ll do today.

Today’s memory takes us back to a Tuesday morning in December 2021. The skies are slightly gray and overcast as we leave Asia and head back to the Tree of Life.

After leaving Expedition Everest, we decided to grab a quick snack and noticed some commotion nearby where the Siamangs and White-Cheeked Gibbons were making their presence known. Curious, we headed over to see what was happening and witnessed a territorial argument between the two groups on their respective islands. We chat with a cast member stationed there who shared interesting stories and details about the troops. After finishing our snack, we continue on our way to the Tree of Life and It’s Tough to be a Bug!

As we walk across the bridge, we see our tiny tortoise friend enjoying his breakfast. We pause to appreciate his happiness before moving forward. Upon reaching the tree, we hear another Winged Encounters show going and witness a display of various parrots flying overhead while calling out. We continue our journey through the roots of the Tree of Life while enjoying the sounds of the parrots overhead.

As we make our way below the tree filled with animals, we make a game of spotting as many different creatures as possible as we wind our way through the roots. There is no line though, so without much of a wait, we put on our special bug-eyes and find our seats in the half-filled theater towards the right. The host, Flick, appears and invites us to put on our glasses so we can begin our adventure of observing the bugs.

After exiting the theater, we dispose of our glasses in the bin and proceed to the walkway where we pause to consider our next course of action.

So again, for the best experience, make sure to wear your favorite headphones as this is another binaural memory.
